CrossFit Gyms Are Everywhere. Learn Where to Find Yours.

CrossFit Gyms Are Everywhere. Learn Where to Find Yours.

If you’ve been around the WodBottom community for any amount of time, you know that we are CRAZY about CrossFit. Our brand came from a desire to clothe strong bodies. And while we think all physical activity is important (shout out to ladies out there doing pole, yoga, roller derby, and every other workout under the sun), we’re especially fond of the CrossFit gyms helping women realize their inner and outer strength.

If you’re not part of a CrossFit community, but you’re interested in learning more, keep reading. You can also click here and discover CrossFit gyms (called “boxes”) in your local community.

Why We Love CrossFit

Oh, let us count the ways. While CrossFit might look like medieval torture to those on the outside (and sometimes feels a little like torture on the inside), it’s an incredible program. The ever-changing workouts are designed to challenge your physical and mental boundaries. Each day brings something new and exciting.

The endless variety is part of the draw for CrossFitters. The “Workout of the Day” or “WOD” is always different. But no matter what the WOD holds, one thing is for sure: you’re going to be physically and emotionally tested. And at the end of the workout, you’ll be amazed at what your body can do. Each WOD is a super high-intensity workout, at relatively short intervals, designed to produce amazing results. It’s a combination of skills from many disciplines: gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, and other athletic training.

Of course, at the heart of CrossFit gyms around the world is the community. “The box” is a place of inclusion, support, and encouragement. No matter what you’re going through, you can count on your Swole Sisters and Brawny Brothers to have your back. (I made up the second one. Just go with it).

There’s so much more to love (we even wrote another blog about it), but let’s just say CrossFit is addictive in all the right ways.

What is a CrossFit Box?

If you’ve heard CrossFitters talking about “going to the box,” don’t be afraid. It might sound sinister, but “the box” is another name for CrossFit gyms. The name originated from the first CrossFit gyms, which were often sparsely-decorated warehouse spaces shaped like giant – you guessed it – boxes.

There are now more than 13,000 gyms in over 120 countries worldwide. Of these, many boxes still operate in pared-down facilities, decorated with only the necessary equipment. This equipment is relatively standard in each box: barbells, weight plates, kettlebells, pull-up stations, rowing machines, stationary bikes, foam rollers, and, of course, humungous tires. There are also posters honoring fallen service members, each of whom has a workout named after them.

Each box is independently operated by trained coaches and staff. Many offer programs for children, teens, and adults. Some even provide women-only training sessions. Each box is as uniquely different as the people inside.

Finding CrossFit Gyms Near You

With over 13,000 CrossFit gyms across the world, there is almost certainly one (or more!) near you. Whether you’re new to CrossFit or recently moved to a new location, finding CrossFit gyms is easy. To find a local box, visit the CrossFit official website (click here to search locations).

Because there are so many locations, you might want to try several before committing to a CrossFit community. While the programs are the same throughout CrossFit gyms, the community is different at each box. If you decide to try out a class, and you just do not jive with the people in one box, don’t give up! Try another box in your area or another class. Eventually, you’ll find the location and the people who fit you perfectly.

Do YOU love CrossFit? Snap a pic at your box and give a shout-out to your CrossFit community! Share them with us on Instagram or Facebook. We love seeing strong women share their successes!
