The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1953, is the leading patient organization for people with asthma and allergies, and the oldest asthma and allergy patient group in the world. Asthma is a chronic condition. While there is no cure, you can work with your doctor to manage it. Learning about asthma symptoms and triggers can help.
Inflammation of the airways is an important component of asthma. Inflammation can make your airways more sensitive and more narrow than usual, making it harder to breathe. The airways in the lungs may react to various triggers and become more inflamed. The muscles around the airways can also tighten. All of this can reduce airflow in your airways and can cause asthma symptoms.
Why its important to us: Than has been suffering from Asthma from a very young age. He has been taken to the hospital on numerous occasions, once staying for 2 weeks to recover from a serious attack. This condition effects every part of his life and although he tries to live a normal life with being active through Crossfit, Olympic lifting, and adventure, he requires his inhaler at all times and struggles because of it. Struggling with the disease also fueled his desire to pursue a job in the medical field. Than worked as a Respiratory Therapist for over 10 years helping many people who struggle with chronic lung diseases such as asthma.
This cause is important, because not only does Than have Asthma, but our son Connor has asthma as well. Connor faces the same difficulties as Than, and often requires nebulizer treatments, and has a hard time whenever he is overly active.
Asthma is a day to day struggle for millions of people, but it doesn't have to be. That is why WodBottom donates a share of all proceeds to this foundation. We hope that one day there will be a cure.
